LESOTHO’S Lishoeshoe and Zambia’s Aguilla made perfect starts to their CAF Under-17 Girls Integrated Football Tournament (GIFT) Zimbabwe 2025 campaigns after recording emphatic victories in Group B action at Ngoni Stadium in Norton yesterday.
It was goals galore on the second day of action after hosts Mpopoma Academy had set the tone for lively entertainment in the competition with their dozen goals on Monday being the talking point of the opening day.
Yesterday it was the turn of the Group B teams to plunge into action.
And Lishoeshoe were dominant in the opening fixture of the day as they claimed a 6-2 win over South Africa’s Refilwe.
Boiketlo Molise led the charge with a well-taken brace, while Naleli Morie, Mampona Lekenyane and Ntsamaeng Tholo were also on target for the side from the Mountain Kingdom.
The sixth goal came via an unfortunate own goal from Refilwe captain Makgatla Ramahla. Pretty Modika struck twice at the other end to give the South Africans some consolation.
Aguilla Girls followed up with a commanding display of their own, easing past Namibia’s Okakakara Golden Ladies 5-0. Luyando Banda grabbed a brace, with Beauty Namukonda, Luyando Banda and Serah Mu-sonda adding further goals to seal a convincing victory.
The results leave Aguilla top of the group on goal difference, level on three points with Lishoeshoe.
Refilwe sit third, while Golden Ladies occupy fourth place after the opening round.
Today is a rest day but the team will partake in the Goal Setters Event, an important awareness campaign on HPV vaccination aimed at promoting the health and wellbeing of young athletes and communities.
The event will bring together all participating teams in the GIFT Cup Tournament, creating a powerful platform for education, empowerment, and advocacy.
