Mrs Margaret Mukange said some of her customers went home empty-handed on the day after she exhausted her stock.
“Many of my regular customers went home empty-handed after I ran out of stock at around midday on Christmas Day. I sold more than 400 goats and each was priced from US$40 to US$50.
“I only have five goats left with the rest gone. We have a co-operative that buys and sells goats from as far as Nyamapanda and Muzarabani where the price for the goats is reasonable. I am happy because our children will be able to return to school next year,” she said.
“She said she had started stocking again for the New Year.
Another vendor who identified himself as Petros said goats were now selling more than beef and chicken.
“I thrive on selling goats. This Christmas has been the most lucrative. I managed to sell all my stock of more than 30 and each goat was going for US$40,” he said.
