1 Kings 17:1-16

AND Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

[2] And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, [3] Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

[4] And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

[5] So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

[6] And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

[7] And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

[8] And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, [9] Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

There was no rain for three and half years and Israel was in a severe drought. Elijah had pronounced the word for the drought to come.

But he was not going to suffer and die from the effects of his word.

God would not allow the righteous to suffer with the unrighteous.

God commanded ravens to bring him food in the morning and evening.

Where the ravens got the meat from is a mystery.

What is real is that they brought food and Elijah ate it.

How the ravens would not themselves eat the meat and were faithful to bring it to Elijah is a mystery, but the thing of it is that they were commanded to bring the food.

If a blessing is commanded by God to come your way, even the people who themselves want it, are commanded to bring it to you.

Haman was commanded to bring kingly apparel to Mordecai, and pay obeisance to him although Haman wanted them himself.

Your employer will order your rival at work to write your letter of promotion and pay increment.

Your rival will be forced allocate you a company vehicle.

Peninnah will be forced to congratulate Hannah for receiving a baby, prophet Samuel.

Someone who does not like you will be forced to attend a ceremony at which you will be celebrated.

Elijah was drinking water from a brook that no man knew about.

All other sources of water had dried up, but Elijah had a source of water.

God has a way to sustain His people from a source that other people know nothing about.

People may see you thriving and be unaware of the source of your thriving.

They shall wonder how you are thriving.

They shall investigate you on suspicion of corruption.

They do not know your source of thriving.

Keep them guessing.

Keep drinking from the brook of the Word of God.

Keep being sustained by God in a secret place.

When the brook dried up, God sent Elijah, not to a rich aristocrat.

He sent him to a widow woman.

There Elijah was sustained.

The woman had been commanded by God to sustain Elijah.

When God commands it, your sustenance will come even from an unlikely source.

When Elijah got to Zarephath, to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he asked her to bring him some water in a vessel to drink.

He asked her further to bring him a piece of bread.

She only a handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, was gathering two sticks, that she could may go and bake herself an her son the last meal and wait to die.

Elijah told her not to fear but to go and him a little cake first, and thereafter bake one for herself and for her son.

Elijah pronounced the Word of the Lord that LORD the barrel of meal shall not going to run dry, neither would the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD would send rain upon the earth.

The widow went and did according to the saying of Elijah and Elijah, herself and her house were sustained.

The barrel of meal and the cruse of oil did not run dry until the drought was over.

When God commands your sustenance, it will come from an unlikely source.

A commanded sustenance cannot run dry.

Leviticus 25:21says: Then I will command my blessing upon you in the sixth year, and it shall bring forth fruit for three years.
