The 36-year-old man who is trending for the wrong reasons appeared in court on Saturday morning (21 February) for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl.
Godwell Mumba appeared in court before Bulawayo Provincial Magistrate Mr Themba Chimiso charged with having sexual intercourse with a child. He was not asked to plead. He was remanded in custody until 23 February for the commencement of the trial.
Prosecutor Mr Joseph Rugara told the court that from January this year until last week, Mumba engaged in sex with a 14-year-old who cannot be named for ethical reasons.
“From January this year, the accused had consensual sex with the girl on several occasions until last week,” he told the court.
Detectives from Homicide swooped on him after his alleged victim blew his cover.
If the age of consent by law is 18, how is it possible to have consensual sex with a 14 year old? This is rape. The standards of reporting have sunk so low, it’s embarrassing .
