AMAKHOSI Cricket Club 1 spinner Nkosibongwe Gogodo was the biggest winner of the evening as the Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association (BMCA) hosted their end-of-season awards at Queens Sports Club on Saturday.
The former Zimbabwe Under-19 international scooped three awards as BMCA celebrated top performers during the recently concluded campaign in both the First and Second League.
Gogodo was named cricketer of the year before going on to take the best bowler accolade (for the First League) after claiming 21 wickets in eight innings at an average of 11. He was also named the league’s most valuable player (MVP).
With Gogodo claiming three accolades, there were also some players who also walked away happy.
In the First League, seasoned campaigner Nkosana Mpofu was named the best batter after scoring 437 runs in six innings at an average of 218.5.
Sean Phiri walked away with the best wicketkeeper award with two caught behinds and one stumping.
In T20 Cricket, Ashley Phiri got the best batter award after scoring 171 runs in six innings at an average of 28.5 and a strike rate of 117.93.
With 10 wickets in five innings, Shaun Dzakatira claimed the best bowler accolade while Dalubuhle Mboyi took home the best wicketkeeper award with two caught behinds, two stumpings and one assisted run out.
Ashley Phiri was named the T20 League’s MVP.
In the Second League, Nketa Cricket Club’s Cyril Musasa walked back with the best batter award after scoring 266 runs in eight T20s, averaging 53.2.
William Dube took 22 wickets in six 40-over innings at an average of 3.86 and was named best bowler. The best wicketkeeper accolade went to Kudakwashe Muza who had four caught behinds, two stumpings and three assisted run outs in both T20s and 40 overs.
Dube was adjudged the league’s MVP.
In the Women’s League, Gracious Nsingo won the best batter award after she scored 255 runs in four innings at an average of 127.5. Chiedza Dururu claimed the best bowler accolade with 17 wickets in five innings at an average of 4.59 and economy of 4.33.
The best wicketkeeper award was claimed by Nokukhanya Zulu who had one caught behind and one stumping.
Dururu was also named the League’s MVP.
Tawanda Mhora took home the umpire of the year award while Joana Phiri claimed the scorer of the year award.
Marvellous Ndebele was named the groundsman of the year with a special award also going to Dale Saudan.
First League champions, Amakhosi Cricket Club 2, Second League champions Dingani Bookshop Cricket Club and women’s champions, Amakhosi Cricket Club were also recognised during the ceremony.
Dingani Bookshop Cricket Club will be playing in the First League this coming season and on Saturday were presented with a trophy and prize money to help facilitate their affiliation fees for the First League.
