Golden girl weaves her magic – again

HAVING made history as a member of the Zimbabwe hockey team that won gold at the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games, Trish Davies is working her magic in moulding a team can match that feat.
Golden Girl Davies is once again basking in glory after leading the women’s Under-21 team to Junior World Cup qualification.
Zimbabwe finished second at the Junior Africa Cup in Namibia last weekend and will join winners South Africa at the world showcase scheduled for later this year in Chile.
And Davies reckons even the sky cannot be the limit for her charges if they receive enough support.
“These girls are amazing, they have the talent and the desire to do well,” she said in an interview soon after team’s return from Namibia last week.
“What we just need now are support structures that ensure that we return this talent. Schools provide us with players but usually we lose them when they go to university across the borders. If we can find a way to keep this promising team together I tell you even an Olympic gold medal is a possibility.”
