VETERAN sports management consultant and administrator Robert Mutsauki is set to facilitate the amalgamation of Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA), Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union (ZLGU) and the Zimbabwe Professional Golfers Association (ZPGA) into one entity.

The three bodies have been running golf separately in the country with ZGA’s main focus being men’s amateur golf while ZLGU runs women’s amateur golf. ZPGA is responsible for all professional golfers, however, as per advice from the R&A – which is the world governing body of golf outside the Americas – one federation is needed to run the sport in the country.

Mutsauki said the process has been going well.

“I have been engaged to facilitate the amalgamation process. I joined in the final quarter of 2024, its ongoing and we have covered a bit of ground. We are still at the consultative stage, which involves surveys, interviews and meetings with stakeholders. The next thing coming up is a workshop, which is still part of consultation.

“The idea is to have one body that is governing and administering golf. It will be one body and the name may change. It is yet to be decided what the name will be. There will be a new constitution so that one body is the one that will relate with outside bodies, whether in Africa or globally,” said Mutsauki.

He added that none of the three bodies should feel left out in the new system.

“We are trying to come up with a road map. You must follow due process that is a critical thing. At the end of the day, everybody must be happy to be part of this new thing, no one must feel like they have been swallowed by another body out of these three,” he said.

There is no timeline as to when the process needs to be finished. – @brandon_malvin
