ZIMBABWE’S leading amateur golfer, Kieran Vincent, will leave the local stage on a high note after he won the Zimbabwe Amateur Championship at Royal Harare yesterday.
Vincent, who is scheduled to leave the country today for a golf scholarship at Liberty University in the United States, managed to cap a fine four-round event at 284 with scores of 72, 71, 69 and 72.
On a parting note, Vincent said he was overwhelmed to win the event and expect to defend his title next year.
“It was a good week for me and the field was very competitive and I would like to continue working hard.
“There was strong competition and I am happy that I am leaving on a winning note,” said Vincent. Chapman Golf Club’s David Amm was second on 289 after he carded rounds of 71, 74, 72 and 72. Amm was happy with his performances and now looks ahead to the Harare Amateur Championships set for this coming week at Chapman. “I had a good game and it was very challenging but I now focus on the Harare Amateur Championships.
“I am really looking forward to the event and it will be held at my home course Chapman so I am looking forward to the game. My second round let me down as we had two rounds in which I carded a 74 but my ball striking is improving with each outing,” said Amm.
The tournament also saw another United States-based player Stuart Krog, who is on vacation, placing third with rounds of 74, 76, 71 and 72 for a 293 total.
Nagrin Hanish was fourth with scores of 66, 77, 73, and 79 for a total 295 while Travis Smith completed the top five on 296.
