Gonah up for Face of Black Opal

ALL is set for the 2014 Black Opal Face of Zimbabwe contest (Bofoz) taking place at the Reps Theatre in Harare on Saturday.
The lucky lady who will be adjudged Black Opal Face of Zimbabwe will be the cosmetic range’s local brand ambassador for the year.
The contest will include a first prize of $8,000 for the winner, $4,000 and $2,000 for the runners up and a year’s supply of Black Opal products for the winner.

Ba’Shupi, Jah Prayzah and Sniper are expected to provide entertainment at the event.
The 2014 Bofoz search started on November 1 last year and has been running under the banner “Kickstart your Dreams: Shungu Dzemwoyo: Isifiso Senhliziyo”.

All eyes will on Saturday be on Sandra Gonah, an 18-year-old beauty from Bulawayo who happens to be the only Bofoz candidate from the southern region. She will battle it out with 15 other contestants at the African carpet event.

The young lady, who is already in Harare for the event, said she was raring to go and was hoping to clinch the title.
She added that she learnt about the competition from her mother who advised her to enter.

“My mother told me about the competition and she thought it would be good for me to enter as I like experimenting with makeup. To enter I had to purchase at least $30 of any Black Opal products and provide an A5 picture of my face which was sent to the judges in Harare by the Black Opal representatives in Bulawayo,” she said.

The judges then had to choose from the photos which were sent to them from all over the country of different girls, hence her picture was chosen together with some other ladies from various provinces.

Once chosen by the judges, one would have to get voted for by the people and the more votes one garnered, the higher the chances were of being a finalist. People voted for Gonah and now she still needs those votes to come out tops at the finale.

Having come from a family with a top model — Michelle Gonah — one would assume she has the same model gene in her, but young the Gonah said she fell short in that department.
