Gondo wins Nkomo golf tournament

Gondo of Bulawayo Golf Club was in good cheer as he carded impressive scores of 66 and 71.

The golf player was playing against 15 other professionals who took part in the event.

Gondo says he feels good and will continue to work hard and maintain his consistency.

“The event went on well, I managed to win the competitive event and I am going to continue working hard,” said Gondo.

“We just did what we are expected to do as professional golf players and it was good to play the game honouring the late Vice President.

“The rains which came before Thursday tee off were good for me as I am good in slow greens.

“There was much competition but I managed to do well. My hard work is paying off and this season I am doing quiet well.

“We will now look forward to next assignments and I will not rest,” Gondo said.

Ignatius Mketekete finished the event in second place after he scored 69 and 71 during the two rounds.

Mketekete remains a top contender in local events and last year he was in top form winning up to four titles. Tich Musemburi finally got it right this time as he finished third. Musemburi who was disqualified in the Hwange Open could not afford to make mistakes and scored a cool 70 and 73.

The outing brings back confidence to the player.

Phillip Tshuma was not to be outdone as he finished in fourth place with scores of 73 and 72.

Veteran Day Muyambo showed that he still has what it takes as he finished in fifth place.

In the proam event the Astra team which had Mketekete as a professional walked away the winners.
