GABORONE United defender Tatenda Gora is unfazed by the Warriors snub despite his outstanding performance in Botswana’s top flight.

The Warriors local-based players from the provisional squad start camp today for the initial selection process by coach Marian Marinica. Zimbabwe’s new head coach Marinica, cast his net wide for his provisional team ahead of the AFCON finals set for Morocco in December.

“Football has its own dynamics, sometimes it’s a long road for some while a bit straight forward for some,” said Gora.

Since joining Gaborone United from the relegated GreenFuel, Gora has been the pillar of their defence. His performances were instrumental in the club’s championship win last season, earning him the league’s outstanding defender award.

He continues to inspire the side, which currently sits on top of the league table during its mid-season break, with 32 points and two games in hand.

Gora was part of the squad that took part in the Champions League before being dumped by Simba SC of Tanzania.

Historically, Zimbabwean players in the Botswana Premier League have been overlooked by national team coaches.

This trend was recently broken by Daniel Msendami, whose impressive form for Jwaneng Galaxy earned him a move to South Africa’s Marumo Gallants and a pivotal role in Marinica’s friendly matches against Algeria and Qatar.

Inspired by this breakthrough, Gora is opting for patience over frustration.

“My case has been of hope, courage and faith. I am not afraid of new challenges or establishing my space. So being omitted from the national team means the time hasn’t arrived. It will, and the day the call comes, I will simply embrace it, I am ready,” he said. Gora said he has focused on helping his side defend their league title.

“Yes, we are on break, but I have decided to sit back and work here in Botswana. I will be coming back home for a short time. But the whole idea is not to lose concentration, I have to remain focused and continue to help my team in achieving its goals.”
