MR Zimbabwe, Paul Goredema today moves his fine tuning to Harare ahead of his title defence at 7 Arts Theatre on Saturday.

Goredema, who resides in Gweru, has declared his readiness for what should be a tough battle against three-time Mr Zimbabwe winner, Champion Chienderamwano. The Botswana based Chienderamwano was last crowned Mr Zimbabwe in 2015 but decided not to compete last year.

“I am good to go, I am definitely defending my title. I am not even concerned about who else is competing. Last year I only had pressure on myself, this year I am not pressured by anyone who is coming to compete,” Goredema said.

The 27-year old last competed in May when he took part in the prestigious Arnold Classic in Johannesburg, South Africa where he finished third in the up to 100 kilogrammes category.

Goredema’s last training session in Gweru is today before he embarks on the journey. He plans to take time off to relax in the days leading up to the competition.

“It has been a tough last week of training but I have got everything under control. When I go to Harare I won’t be training, I will be just relaxing, I have done my part. My last training day is on Tuesday, my body needs to relax, last year I trained until two days before the show. Knowing how hard it is to train while you are not eating much, it’s best to take time out and relax,” Goredema said.

What makes even the last few weeks of training harder for Goredema is the fact that he does not eat much since carbohydrates are taken off his diet with reliance mostly on proteins which makes the body weak. The other top contenders for Mr Zimbabwe are Ndumiso Dlodlo, Garikayi Mujuru, Blessing Nyapimbi, Nigel Maphosa, Simbarashe Dube and Edmore Mutero.
