Nominees for this year’s PERMICAN gospel awards have been released ahead of the ceremony set for City Sports Centre in Harare on September 19. PERMICAN awards were created by United Family International Church leader Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa and his wife Ruth to honour of Zimbabwean gospel musicians who evangelise through music.
“PERMICAN” stands for Prophets Emmanuel and Ruth Makandiwa Invitational Concert Awards Night. The function will see artistes, who would have preached the word of God through music with excellence, receiving awards. Over the years there have been many awards for many other forms of music but PERMICAN honours gospel musicians only.
This year’s show will run for three hours with all activities fitting in that time and there will be local and international performers. Pastor Ted Lazaro, director for Christ TV which hosts the awards, there would be a category to honour gospel legends.
“As this is an annual event we will be honouring music legends for their excellence. Last year we gave one award in that category and we hope to increase the number with time,” said Pastor Lazaro
“The event is going to be a black tie event, meaning that people on that day must be smartly dressed, it will be a dressed to kill event,” he said
He went on to say that they have also come up with PERMICAN Trust which will run throughout the year helping these gospel artistes so that they can also benefit from their works. Winners will be awarded with trophies and cash but artistes that win in absentia will only be awarded with a trophy.
Some of the nominees are Takesure Zamar, Mathias Mhere, Tatenda Mahachi, Pastor G, Rev Chivaviro, Janet Manyowa and Kudzi Nyakudya.
The categories include Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Video of the Year, Best Group, Best Producer and Best Collaboration.
