THREE emerging Bulawayo gospel acappella outfits, The Royal Elite, Vantage Acappella and Verite are set to light the Bulawayo Theatre stage on Saturday evening when they host a spiritually uplifting musical concert.
Themed “The Dawning Concert”, the event – the first of its kind – will also feature performances by vocal jazz syndicates, Afronova and renowned youthful choir, Vocal Ex.
Concert organiser, Nkokhelo Khumalo, who is also the Royal Elite director, said fast rising group – Vocal Ex would for the first time do away with their instruments and go acappella as the concert seeks to promote gospel acappella music in the city.
Advance tickets have been pegged at $3 for a single ticket, while a ticket for two costs $4. A group ticket which will admit five has been priced at $9.
“The utmost purpose of the concert is to remind the people of Bulawayo that there’s a great dawning experience which is to come. This dawning experience is that of the second coming of the Messiah to planet earth to cleanse this world from sin”, Verite’s manager – Maqhawe Lunga said.
One of the organisers of the event, Thabiso Khumalo said the concert would be a eulogy and veneration of the Lord, a declaration that Jesus Christ is the ruler and saviour for all mankind.
“We want to re-ignite praise and worship through acappella music and to bring people from diverse backgrounds and denominational persuasions together to reflect on the one thing that all Christendom agree on, that Jesus Christ is Lord and is worthy to be praised”, Khumalo said.
“Praise is a universal language, each performing group speaks in its own way, but they’re going to add something different that will speak to someone at the concert. Hence the importance of integrating the groups so each and everyone can come out having been touched in some way.”
Nkokhelo Khumalo revealed plans to host similar concerts next year.
“Verite, The Royal Elite and Vantage Acappella will be launching their debut albums at the end of the year and we’re planning to host a similar event for the launch. Another concert will be held again this time, next year as we want it to be an annual event,” said Khumalo.
“We’re hoping to promote more up-and-coming gospel groups through these concerts so that their talent is recognised.”
