GOSPEL musician Pastor Stanley Gwanzura, popularly known as Pastor G, says gospel music is not about singing sorrowful songs but must be a vehicle used to convey God’s greatness.
The “street preacher” as he is sometimes called, said his music had taken a paradigm shift from the predictable sorrowful pleas to God, but instead giving praise and worship to the Lord.

“We can’t always be crying. I have moved from that kind of music.  I am tired of singing crying songs.
“Rather than singing songs such as, Lord I am poor; I have no money . . . from my album Inspirational, I began to do music that means something, music which is more inspirational and more connecting to God,” said Pastor G on the sidelines of the mega gospel concert held in the city last weekend.

Pastor G said music globally had shifted focus from the traditional praise hymns to worship.
“People worldwide are hungry for God.  The worship movement is growing. Even within Seventh Day Adventist circles, you will find that more accapella groups are doing music that addresses God — music that is vertical than horizontal.

“The movement is here to stay and would probably usher in the Second Coming of Christ,” he said.
Pastor G, credited for being one of the pioneers of the urban gospel revolution, paid tribute to artistes such as Sebastian Magacha and Thembalami whom he said had played a pivotal role in the revolution.

Pastor G has 11 albums and has worked with several budding artistes in the country including the on-fire group Zimpraise, Thembalami, Shower Power and Sani Makhalima.

Pastor G said his latest offering “Wengoni” would be launched on June 7 in Harare and would coincide with the DVD launch.
Some of Pastor G’s popular tracks include Makomborero, Mabiribobi, Tariro and Mender of broken hearts.
