Government has made advancements in the distribution of essential inputs, providing support to farmers across the nation.

This initiative aims to boost productivity and ensure food security, as farmers demonstrate preparedness to maximise their yields.

With a focus on maize and sorghum seed, fertilisers and crop contracting, the combined efforts indicate a collaborative approach towards enhancing agricultural output.

Statistics from Agricultural and Rural Development Advisory Services (ARDAS) indicate that the distribution of maize seed has seen 166 600 farmers receiving support, equating to 12.6percent of the targeted 1 324 700.

Similarly, while 12 500 farmers received sorghum seed, this reflects a smaller achievement of 0.88 percent against a target of 1 415 200.

Government has also facilitated the distribution of basal dressing fertilisers to 213 000 farmers, achieving 17.8 percent of its goal, while 95 880 farmers received top dressing fertilisers, reaching 8 percent of the target.

Farmers have not only embraced these inputs but have also adequately prepared their land for the season.

A total of 14 033 766 Pfumvudza/Intwasa plots, equivalent to 875 706 hectares, are now ready for planting, illustrating the dedication and effort of farmers in their agricultural pursuits.

Furthermore, 80 674ha of summer crops have been contracted through various organisations, reinforcing the commitment to fostering agricultural growth.

In tobacco production, the area transplanted has significantly increased to 29 104ha, compared to 22 392ha last year, with irrigated land accounting for 23 637ha.
