Government approves Harare City Council budget

Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe has approved the City of Harare’s US$690 million 2026 budget.

In a statement, acting town clerk Engineer Phakamile Mabhena Moyo said this is in terms of Section 47 (1) of the Public Finance Management Act (Chapter 22: 19).

“This approval marks a critical step forward in our commitment to service delivery and financial responsibility,” reads the statement.

“The approval of this budget provides the legal and financial framework for the city to execute its planned projects for the 2026 fiscal year.”

The statement also notifies residents, ratepayers and stakeholders of the implementation of the new tariff schedule effective immediately.

The statement indicated that the city can now deploy resources towards essential services, including water provision, waste management road rehabilitation and public health initiatives.
