PROVINCIAL and district Civil Registry offices have been directed to prioritise Zimbabwean returnees from South Africa requiring identity documents, with officials instructed to provide prompt assistance at all registry offices across the country.

Registrar General Mr Henry Machiri said the Civil Registry Department has activated measures to ensure returning Zimbabweans are assisted without unnecessary delays as Government continues to facilitate their reintegration.

The Beitbridge District Registry has already deployed officials to the reception centre at the border post, where they are processing documents and providing information to returnees on the procedures they should follow once they reach their respective home districts.

“All Provincial and District Registrars must assist Zimbabwean returnees from South Africa promptly and without delay when they visit our registry offices across the country. Beitbridge District Registry is already stationed at the Beitbridge reception centre assisting the returnees with document processing as well as information dissemination to guide them on how to proceed when they reach their destination districts,” said Mr Machiri.

The move forms part of Government’s coordinated response to ensure returning citizens are able to obtain or replace essential identity documents required to access public services and reintegrate into their communities.

  1. These people were not forced to stay in South Africa illegally and therefore don’t deserve special treatment. Some of them were busy tarnishing the country’s reputation by claiming to be asylum seekers. We should not reward criminals. It’s a criminal offence to break a law in any country. One goes to jail for that.
