“The investigation team will interview the leadership of the various identifiable associations and interest groups with each leader being supported by at most four representatives chosen from their areas beginning on Thursday 15 March 2012.”
It could not be ascertained when the team would complete its investigations.
Contacted for comment Bulawayo mayor Councillor Thaba Moyo said the council was ready to receive the team without any fear.
“We do not have any problems with that. Let them come, ababuye sibili sibamelele. We are a clean city and there is nothing to fear,” said Clr Moyo.
Last year, the Minister of Local Government, Rural and Urban Development, Dr Ignatius Chombo, said the Government would establish an investigation team to probe local authorities.
This followed a public outcry over alleged corruption tendencies and abuse of funds by council officials countrywide.
Most MDC-T councillors in Harare and Chitungwiza were suspended over allegations of clandestinely acquiring housing stands.
In Bulawayo, the city council has come under fire from residents over an alleged housing scandal that saw a council’s housing assistant getting fired.
The council has also been grilled for splashing thousands of United States dollars on buying top of the range vehicles for council management and allowances for councillors.
