The Government has officially launched the Presidential Stands Programme, a landmark initiative aimed at honouring veterans of the liberation struggle through the allocation of residential land.
The programme seeks to provide secure and dignified housing for war veterans who played a critical role in securing the nation’s independence.
Prevail Group International will develop the stands and provide all the necessary services, starting with 50 000 units.
The stands are expected to come with access to roads, water, electricity, and other essential services, with the Government pledging to work closely with local authorities to fast-track development.
Several officials attended the launch ceremony, including Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe, Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs Minister Monica Mavhunga, and Prevail Group International, led by Special Presidential Investment Adviser, Dr Paul Tungwarara.
The Presidential Stands Programme forms part of a broader national strategy to uplift historically marginalised groups and ensure inclusive development anchored on respect, equity, and justice.
Speaking at the ceremony in Harare today, Minister Garwe said the programme reflects the Government’s deep appreciation of the sacrifices made by liberation war heroes.
“Our Constitution provides for us to accord honour, respect, and economic empowerment to war veterans,” he said.
Minister Mavhunga weighed in, saying 20 per cent of the country’s resources are allocated to war veterans.
“I am happy that the Ministry of Local Government and Prevail Group of Companies are here to fulfil what is required by the statutes of this country,” she said.
Dr Tungwarara said they are ready to start the work.
