THE houses that are being built for civil servants by the Government in partnership with the private sector are expected to be fully done and ready for commissioning by the end of the month, an official closely associated with the project has revealed.
This remarkable initiative is a testament to the Government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for civil servants beyond monetary compensation.
During a tour of the construction site in Umguza, Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, Daniel Garwe, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made thus far.
Working hand in hand with the private sector, the Government has facilitated the construction of an impressive total of 5,300 single-story houses and 2,300 units comprising blocks of flats, churches, and schools. These infrastructure developments will significantly contribute to the overall well-being of civil servants.
Minister Garwe confirmed that the first phase of housing construction is nearing completion, bringing the dream of homeownership closer to reality for countless civil servants. Once the houses are complete, all civil servants will have the opportunity to benefit from this extraordinary initiative.
“In late July, we are eagerly anticipating the presence of the President, who will graciously commission the houses and personally hand over the title deeds to the new homeowners,” announced Minister Garwe, reflecting the significance and pride attached to this momentous occasion.
Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Cde Richard Moyo, shed further light on the distribution of the 5,300 housing units. These units will be shared between Matabeleland North and Bulawayo provinces, ensuring that a considerable number of civil servants can partake in this life-changing endeavour. The innovative rent-to-buy model has been adopted, making the houses financially accessible to all civil servants.
“While all civil servants are entitled to benefit from this housing project, those working in economic development sectors will be given priority in the initial phase. We will collaborate closely with their chairpersons to devise a fair and transparent selection process,” assured Minister Moyo, highlighting the Government’s commitment to equitable distribution of these valuable resources. – @flora_sibanda
