GOVERNMENT has intensified measures to support the reintegration of returning Zimbabweans, with Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Edgar Moyo saying their return presents an opportunity to boost the country’s economic activity and productivity.
Speaking on Government’s reintegration programme, Minister Moyo said comprehensive social protection measures had been put in place to ensure returning citizens are resettled with dignity while contributing to national development.
He said Government is providing psychosocial support for children and families affected by displacement, as well as family tracing and reunification services aimed at reconnecting returnees with their relatives.
“The return of Zimbabweans presents an opportunity to boost economic activity and productivity. Government is providing social protection, psychosocial support for children and families, and reunification services to reconnect displaced citizens with their relatives,” said Minister Moyo.
He said those without accommodation are being assisted through care centres, while food assistance and temporary shelter are also being provided to ensure no returning citizen is left vulnerable during the reintegration process.
Minister Moyo said the interventions are designed to facilitate a smooth transition back into communities while restoring livelihoods and promoting social inclusion.
Government has been strengthening reintegration programmes as more Zimbabweans return from neighbouring countries, particularly South Africa, with authorities working alongside humanitarian partners and other stakeholders to provide essential support services.
The reintegration programme forms part of broader Government efforts to ensure returning citizens are able to rebuild their lives, access basic social services and participate meaningfully in the country’s socio-economic development.
