Government has availed $1 million to Chegutu Municipality to address poor water and sewer reticulation systems which have seen the area battling with disease outbreaks over the years. At least four people died of cholera early this year. The timely availing of funds comes in the face of another health hazard looming in the area, with raw effluent flowing in most of the suburbs, including Mashayamombe, on the road to Pfupajena Stadium.

In an interview, Chegutu Town Clerk Mr Alex Mandigo said the local authority was in the process of procuring materials for the upgrading of the reticulation systems.

“Government has availed $1 million so that we address water and sewer reticulation systems to curb long time challenges that has seen our town being dogged by cholera outbreaks,” he said.

The Chegutu Municipality recently appealed to Government for funding, which was released through National Budget allocations. Mr Mandigo said a tender has since been flighted to procure materials for the upgrade and renovations.
“We have been issuing material tenders over the past weeks as we are now in the process of procuring materials to be used,” he said.
