THE Government has gazetted the Sports and Recreation Amendment Bill to improve corporate governance within the institution in line with provisions of the Public Entities and Corporate Governance Act.
The Bill was published in the Government Gazette yesterday.
According to the memorandum of the Bill, the SRC shall comprise of at least nine members, but not more than 11.
“This clause (clause 3) amends section 5 to provide for the constitution of the Board, which shall consist of nine members and not more than 11 members,” reads part of the memorandum.
The members shall be appointed for their expertise in sport administration, finance, human resources management, engineering, law, medicine and business management.
The appointees shall also include persons with disabilities.
Clause 4 of the Bill sets the term of office for the Board members which shall be four years renewable once.
Clause 6 provides for the vacation of office by a member while clause 7 sets out the conditions for suspension of a member by the Minister responsible for sport.
