THE Government is eager to collaborate with leaders in industry, the academia and civil society to unlock the full potential of ICT, Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Permanent Secretary Dr Beaullar Chirume has said.
She was speaking at the 2024 Huawei Zimbabwe Congress Summit held in Harare on Tuesday.
Dr Chirume said the summit was testament to the power of collaboration.
“It is through partnerships between governments, industry leaders, academia, and civil society that we can truly unlock the full potential of ICT for the benefit of humanity.”
Dr Chirume said over the past 25 years of collaborating with Huawei, Zimbabwe has upgraded its ICT sector for the realisation of Vision 2030 of an empowered upper-middle income economy.
“Huawei brought the first 4G and 5G networks for Zimbabwe in 2014 and 2021 respectively,” she said.
“We have been working with Huawei through programmes like Seeds for the Future and Huawei ICT Academy to train more than 3 000 talents.
“This means more and more young talents dedicated themselves to ICT industries and building a digitised Zimbabwe.”
Dr Chirume added that the Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services was fully cognisant of the importance of digitalising Zimbabwe.
Vice president of Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa, Mr Phil Li, said they were determined to invest more in Zimbabwe.
“There has been a growing interest in my company to invest more in Zimbabwe in the past years. It has also come to my attention that Zimbabwe has an investment-friendly environment,” he said.
“With more companies only realising it now, I think we are now at an advanced stage with the relationship so deep rooted that no one can disrupt.”
