A NEW Zimbabwean policy framework is being crafted by Government to regulate the media sector and guide content creation in response to the rapid growth of digital platforms and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Zhemu Soda yesterday said the proposed regulations were intended to promote responsible journalism, curb misinformation and strengthen professionalism within the industry.

Speaking after the Cabinet meeting, Dr Soda said Government had already begun consultations with media stakeholders as part of efforts to develop a comprehensive regulatory approach.

“Through the Ministry of Information, we are working on a project by which human capital development will be prioritised, especially to ensure that we have content that is being created, especially local content, in line with our media policy requirements.

“We have set aside some resources for content creation.”

Dr Soda said the initiative sought to respond to the changing media landscape, where technological advancements had made it easier for individuals to generate and disseminate content instantly.
