GOVERNMENT is working towards the establishment of community-based programmes to encourage mass participation in sports, arts and culture activities to promote patriotism, a Cabinet minister has said. Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Andrew Langa said such activities help people to be patriotic and content with their identity and cultural heritage.
Minister Langa made the remarks while addressing stakeholders as a build-up to his ministry’s strategic meetings to be held later in the year.
“The creation of the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture is a milestone in the development of sport, arts and culture sectors in Zimbabwe,” he said.
“Government’s decision to do so has been in order to enable each respective sector to achieve greater prominence in contributing to the national development agenda while at the same time to increase investments in those who develop products that are significant to the national social foundation and economy of the country.”
The minister said the new ministry’s programmes would cascade from national, through to provincial and district levels to reach and include the greatest number of people.
