Govt opens doors for media

INFORMATION, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa yesterday pledged to depolarise the media by ensuring the ministry’s doors are always open for engagement with stakeholders.

In an interview on Star FM last night, Minister Mutsvangwa said this was in line with President Mnangagwa’s democratisation agenda.

“In our ministry and the doors are always open. We invite each and everyone (to discuss matters concerning the sector). We want to remove that polarisation which has always been there.

“We want all our media institutions to be free to walk into our offices whenever they have problems and whenever they want to understand anything on what the ministry is doing,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

She said there were more benefits for engagement, pointing out that this was also President Mnangagwa’s policy.

“We will continue to open up. It is good, and we have seen the benefits of opening up. We have seen the benefits of creating this democratic space. We applaud our President, His Excellency E.D. Mnangagwa for creating that democratic space for all Zimbabweans,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

She called for the prioritisation of the national interest.

She said: “We want to say this is our Zimbabwe. We need all to be involved. That is why we say we have a highly educated populace. We want them to exercise their minds.”
