‘Govt reviewing GMB operations’

Public Service Labour and Social Welfare minister Prisca Mupfumira has said Government is reviewing the operations of the Grain Marketing Board in order to ascertain the state of affairs at the parastatal.

The GMB has been battling to pay its workers for the past six months, and is also failing to pay farmers for grain deliveries. Workers last month staged a one-day sit-in at the parastatal’s headquarters demanding a long term solution to their plight.

GMB is among other parastatals and organisations which have been failing to pay workers due to financial constraints.

In an interview with New Ziana, Minister Mupfumira said Government was in the process of reviewing GMB operations.

“It is a government parastatal and we are reviewing GMB operations. GMB is not the only one, we hear that the Cold Storage Company also has challenges. We are, however, looking into the GMB issue to see what transpired,” she said. — New Ziana.
