Government is seeking funding for over 30 water projects worth billions of dollars as it seeks to cope with challenges of rapid urban population growth, climate change and the demands of a modernised society.
The Ministry of Environment, Water and Climate has since invited potential investors to attend its Water Resources Infrastructure Investment Conference set for Harare from June 4 to 5 this year which will be held under the theme “Unlocking Water Resources Potential for Economic Growth”.
Some of the projects under spotlight are the $122,4 million Muda-Nyatsime Dam which is earmarked to supply bulk water to Chitungwiza.
The dam has capacity for a 0,27 megawatt mini hydro plant, fisheries, eco-tourism and recreational facilities.
Other projects include the $99 million Glass Block Dam in Matabeleland, $413 million Nyatana Dam, Mashonaland East, $70,7 million Mkwasine Dam in Masvingo, $612 million Kudu Dam in Midlands, $376 million Runde-Tende Dam in Masvingo, $181 million Gwayi-Umguza Dam in Matabeleland North, $171m Silverstroom Dam in Mashonaland Central and $127,5 million Lubungo Dam in Midlands. — Herald Reporter.
