Govt supports growth of business sector

The business community must embrace measures implemented to reduce inflation to transform the economy to an upper middle-income economy over the next seven years, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister Kindness Paradza said last Friday.

Speaking during the Business Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Cde Paradza, who spoke on behalf of Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, implored the business community to embrace economic growth measures being put in place by the Government.

The business community should also complement the Government’s efforts in creating an enabling investment climate that promotes increased production and enhanced international trade, he said.

NDS 1 afforded the business sector an opportunity to obtain loans and grants to boost their production. As part of measures to address the continued instability and gap between the official interbank rate and black market exchange rate, an open market weekly auction was introduced by the Reserve bank of Zimbabwe. Again they introduced the gold coins to stabilise the rate of the Zimbabwe dollar and control the rising inflation, said Deputy Minister Paradza. The Business Hall of Fame recognised 10 renowned entrepreneurs who were honoured for their contributions in business sectors. Those who were inducted into the first Hall of Fame were: Dr Leonard Mukumba, Mr Richard Matengambiri, Mr Aaron Chinhara, Mr Kenneth Musanhi, Mrs Vimbai Nyemba, Engineer Norest Nyamakupe, Mr Alex Mashamhanda, Mrs Ennie Mubango, Dr Abel Mubango and Dr Nigel Chanakira. They all agreed that hard work and determination will lead to success in business.

Law Society of Zimbabwe’s past president, Mrs Nyemba said hard work was needed for success. “For one to succeed there is falling and rising. To all who want to be successful you must fall and prepare to rise. You need to continue inspiring others so that the future generations will be inspired with what you are doing,” she said. Mr Mashamhanda, the owner of Mashwede Holdings, said people should always do good things that will make them recognised.

“Young people should learn a lesson that hard work pays,” he said. “Business is about helping each other. I employ a majority of workers with the reason of helping each other. I get profits through these workers and also they also gain money to sustain themselves. This is a win-win situation. I appreciate it very much to be recognised with this award.

“Young people should also learn that hard work and faithfulness will open the road for success. People will be recognising you for your efforts.”

Mr Musanhi narrated how his hard work changed his life.

“I come from Rushinga. My family was very poor,” he said. “I ventured into business just after completing my O levels. I started selling cowpeas and l started a taxi business and eventually ventured in buses and today l have a plane.

“I am not a degreed person. I saw it unnecessary to continue with education because there was a door which was already opening for me.”

Dr Mukumba, the owner of Inter Africa buses, said hard work was the only solution to conquer poverty.

“There is no room for resting, we must work hard,” he said. “Poverty is the worst enemy on earth. I am running a fleet of around 500 buses. The only obstacle we encounter in our operation are accidents.”

Dr Chanakira said it was critical for people to work hard and reconstruct the nation.

“Zimbabwe is too rich to be poor,” he said. “We have a big opportunity to reconstruct and reform the nation. Let’s do all we can.”

Meanwhile, a Hall of Fame Museum aimed at preserving and perpetuating the names and outstanding accomplishments of business leaders is on the cards.
