The National Annual Science, Sport and Arts Festival underway in Gweru is being used to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of the application concepts in the competence-based curriculum.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Mr Taungana Ndoro said Government had tweaked the country’s education curriculum so that learners can be taught from a very tender age the skills which are expected to play a critical role in the country’s industrialisation agenda.

Mr Ndoro said the ongoing National Annual Science, Sport and Arts Festival which ends in Gweru tomorrow is a key calendar fixture of the ministry.

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Torerayi Moyo is expected to be the guest speaker today.

“The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education considers the National Annual Science, Sport and Arts Festival as a tool that provides opportunities to sustain, grow and further popularise learner exit profiles,” said Mr Ndoro.

“The festival provides revelations of the depth to which the competence-based curriculum is being implemented in schools and it also shows how schools are acquiring teaching and learning materials speaking to the curriculum.

“The festival provides an opportunity for learners to showcase their talents in story-telling, science exhibitions, performing arts and sporting.

“The festival had been shelved temporarily due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The Ministry will continue to use the festival as a vehicle that measures the efficiency and effectiveness of the application concepts in the Competence-based Curriculum,” said Mr Ndoro.
