A MAN from Inyathi in Bubi district who allegedly raped a Grade Six pupil in a bush and gave her $10 to buy her silence, was arrested after the girl went on a spending spree that raised eyebrows at school.

The victim, aged 15, attends school at Turk Mine.

Emmanuel Ncube, of Old Mac Compound, appeared before Nkayi resident magistrate Mr Temba Chimiso on circuit at Inyathi magistrates’ court, facing a rape charge.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to July 11.

Mr Chimiso advised Ncube to approach the High Court for bail.

Prosecuting, Mr Lungisani Dube said Ncube lured the girl into the bush with $10.

“The complainant was on her way home from the shopping centre on June 12 when she met the accused who offered her $10 so she could follow him into the bush,” said Mr Dube.

He said while in the bush, Ncube removed his jacket and spread it on the ground while the girl watched.

“He wore a condom before pulling the complainant to the ground and raping her once,” said Mr Dube.

He said Ncube threatened the victim with assault if she disclosed what had happened to anyone.
