Grandson axes, torches grandma

A 72-YEAR-OLD grandmother from Lupane is fighting for her life at Mpilo Central Hospital after her grandson, who accused her of witchcraft, allegedly hacked her with an axe, doused her in paraffin and set her on fire.

The shocking attack, which occurred in Matama village, has left the community stunned and the family torn apart.

Sibongiseni Mpofu (22), a gold panner from Filabusi, allegedly attacked Christine Ncube, claiming she was behind his misfortunes.

Mpofu was reportedly calm when he approached her grandmother’s homestead, pretending to ask for cooking oil, before he allegedly turned violent.

He is believed to have then struck her on the head with an axe, poured paraffin on her and lit a match.

Ncube’s screams alerted neighbours, who found her engulfed in flames.

They reportedly doused the flames with water and rushed her to St Luke’s Hospital before she was transferred to Mpilo due to the severity of her injuries.

The State claims the May 17 attack was premeditated.

After the assault, Mpofu reportedly called his younger brother, telling him:

“I have killed the old woman, and I want to kill myself.”

Mpofu has since been arrested and appeared before the Lupane Magistrates’ Court. He was remanded in custody to June 3. The matter is set to be heard at the Hwange Regional Court. — B-Metro

Goat feud earns brother 10 months in jail

What started as a family feud over a missing goat spiralled into a savage attack, leaving one brother bruised, bloodied and battered, and the other behind bars.

In a jaw-dropping case that rocked Gwenhamo village under Chief Masunda in Zvishavane, Lewis Sibanda turned            from brother to marauding attacker after accusing his sibling, Francis, of stealing a goat.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the brothers clashed at the gate of their homestead on April 19, 2025. Things got heated and Lewis snapped.

He grabbed a log and launched a full-on assault.

“Francis tried to run but tripped and fell. That is when Lewis rained blows on his head, chest and back, leaving him unconscious,” reads part of the court record.

A nearby villager rushed to the scene and intervened just in time.

The victim was rushed to Zvishavane District Hospital, while Lewis was cuffed and hauled before the courts.

Justice caught up with the hot-headed goat guardian and he was sentenced to 12 months in prison.

Two months were suspended for good behaviour. That means he will be behind bars for 10 months.

25 years for a man who killed reveller over speaker

A night of beers and beats at a Chachacha bar turned into a bloodbath — all over a Bluetooth speaker.

Tatenda Hove (24) will be dancing behind prison bars for the next 25 years after the High Court circuit in Gweru found him guilty of fatally stabbing fellow reveller Pardon Vengai (22) during a drunken altercation at Danga Bar on November 6, 2024.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the chaos started when Pardon and his crew — Prince Vengai and Tawanda Manuwere — were enjoying music from their Bluetooth speaker.

Tatenda and his accomplice, Tapia Chitenga (who is still on the run), gate-crashed the gathering and snatched the speaker.

When Pardon tried to reclaim his property, Tapia reportedly slapped him.

The duo then fled with the speaker, with Pardon in hot pursuit.

“Outside the bar, as Pardon pleaded for his speaker, Tatenda pulled out a Columbia knife and stabbed him in the back as he tried to escape.

The young man collapsed after a short sprint,” read the NPAZ statement.

Pardon was rushed to Zvamavonde Hospital and later transferred to Gweru Provincial Hospital.

He unfortunately succumbed to his wounds on November 8, 2024.

Justice finally caught up with Tatenda, who was apprehended on November 9, 2024 and handed a lengthy 25-year prison sentence for the savage killing. — Midlands Bureau

Zambian man demolishes in-laws’ house after divorce

Revenge after a failed relationship comes in many forms.

While some resort to lethal methods, others use the reclamation approach.

In a shocking turn of events, a man reportedly demolished a house he had constructed for his in-laws after his wife of 10 years divorced him to marry another man.

The incident, which took place somewhere in Zambia, has left people in shock.

According to sources close to the situation, the man had invested significant time, effort and resources into building the home for his in-laws as a gesture of goodwill during his marriage.

However, following the dissolution of the couple’s decade-long union, the man allegedly took drastic action, tearing down the structure.

The man’s message seems perfectly clear: their new son-in-law should also build for them since the parents approved the divorce.

The man’s former wife and her family have not issued a public statement regarding the incident, and it remains unclear whether legal action will be pursued.

The authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the demolition, including property ownership and any potential legal ramifications. — Wires
