IN a harrowing courtroom appearance yesterday, Anymore Zvitsva, the suspected serial killer from Guruve, faced five additional charges as graphic details surrounding his alleged crimes emerged.

Zvitsva initially appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo on a hospital bed facing eight charges after allegedly killing 19 people.

He has since been discharged and was carried into the courtroom yesterday from remand prison as he is still nursing a leg injury after being shot upon arrest.

On March 25, 2022, Zvitsva allegedly forced his way into the home of 20-year-old Charity Chidhawu, who was with her two-year-old son.

Armed with a machete, he reportedly marched them into a nearby thicket, where he tied Chidhawu to a tree.

Zvitsva then brutally murdered her with a machete, mutilating her body to fit into a shallow grave before burying her.

He then allegedly killed her son in a similar manner, displaying a chilling premeditation in his actions.

The court also heard about an incident on September 24, 2022, when Zvitsva encountered Tariro Gotora, who was herding cattle, while carrying her toddler on her back.

Armed again with a machete and snare wire, he allegedly compelled her to throw her child into Chisanga River.

Afterward, he dragged her into a nearby bush, where he raped her and strangled her with the snare wire before discarding her body in the river.

In another account received by the court, on October 9, Zvitsva allegedly broke into the home of Providence Maruza (27) in Ditwi Village.

Armed with an Okapi knife and snare wire, he threatened her life, binding her hands and feet before dragging her to the Dangemuri mountains, where he raped her and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing.

Just weeks later, on October 27, Zvitsva allegedly attacked 62-year-old Reginet Sango, while she was fetching water. He brandished his machete and demanded sexual favours.

When she tried to escape, he struck her, raped her and left her unconscious.

In the same week, he allegedly assaulted Brian Ngoshi, and robbed him after attacking him with a machete and leaving him unconscious by the roadside. Ngoshi was later aided by a passerby who alerted his family.

Zvitsva has been remanded in custody until February 3, during which time he was advised to seek bail from the High Court, which handles such cases.
