GRASSROOTS Cricket is set to return to Kwekwe with an Under-13 T10 Cricket Festival scheduled for August 18 at Redcliff Primary  School.

The forthcoming event marks the second visit by the initiative to the school, continuing its mission to develop and nurture young cricket talent at grassroots level.

This year’s tournament is set to bring together five primary schools from across the city of Kwekwe, creating a competitive yet developmental environment for young players.

Director of cricket at Grassroot Cricket Zimbabwe, Tafadzwa Manyuta said they are looking at not just showcasing up-and-coming talent but also provide a platform for the upcoming players to garner matchday experience.

Manyuta added they are committed to developing players, helping them not only with cricket but also life skills such as discipline, leadership and teamwork among others.

“It aims not only to showcase emerging cricket talent but also to provide a platform for participants to gain valuable match experience in the fast-paced T10 format.

“Beyond the on-field competition, Grassroots Cricket is committed to holistic player development. The programme integrates life skills training to help shape well-rounded individuals, instilling discipline, teamwork, leadership and resilience qualities essential both on and off the field,” said Manyuta.

This initiative forms part of a broader vision to grow the game of cricket in Zimbabwe by investing in the next generation of players and creating accessible opportunities at an early age.

“Through consistent engagement with schools, Grassroots Cricket seeks to build a strong foundation for the future of the sport while positively impacting young lives,” said                Manyuta.

He called on the community, sports stakeholders and supporters of youth development to attend and support the young athletes as they showcase their skills and passion for the game.

The institution also shared their calendar for the year. On August 6-8, there will be the Falcon College Cricket Coaching Camp followed by a Bulawayo Community Outreach at Gampu Primary School on August 9.

The next community outreach programmes are scheduled for August 12 and 14 in Shamva and Chitungwiza, respectively, at Shamva Country Club and St Aidan’s Primary School.

On August 18, Redcliff Primary School will be the host venue for a Redcliff Coaching Clinic which will be followed by an ASE Academy Cricket and Football at Churchill Boys in Harare on August 21. The school will also host the Australia Cricket Sponsorship Trials on August 24.

On August 27, Newlands Country Club will host a Grassroot Cricket Golf Day followed by a Goromonzi Community Outreach on the following day.
