GRASSROOTS Cricket Charity founder Tawanda Karasa is scheduled to arrive in Zimbabwe today to join an ongoing cricket development and community outreach programme that is making a positive impact on young people across the country.
The charity’s latest tour began with the arrival of Australian coaches Peter Buchanan and Trevor Chappell last week. The pair conducted a successful coaching camp at Falcon College, where young cricketers benefited from specialist coaching, mentorship and player development sessions aimed at enhancing their skills and understanding of the game.
As part of its commitment to taking cricket beyond traditional centres, the charity also delivered a community outreach programme at Nkulamane Primary School in Bulawayo.
The initiative introduced learners to cricket while promoting the values of teamwork, discipline, education and healthy living.
With Karasa now in the country, the Grassroots Cricket Charity team is set to continue its development mission in Shamva this week, where coaching clinics, school visits and community engagement activities are scheduled.
Speaking to Zimpapers Sports Hub yesterday from his base in Australia ahead of his arrival in Harare, Karasa said the success of the programme was a testament to the collective efforts of coaches, sponsors and local volunteers working to grow the game at grassroots level.
“I would like to acknowledge and thank our Australian coaches, Peter Buchanan and Trevor Chappell, for their commitment and dedication to developing young cricketers in Zimbabwe. Their willingness to share their knowledge and experience has already had a tremendous impact on the players and communities we have visited,” said Karasa.
“I also extend my sincere gratitude to our major sponsor, Econet, whose support continues to make this work possible. Their investment is helping us reach more communities and create opportunities for young people through cricket.”

Grassroots Cricket Charity has been working to use cricket as a tool for youth development, education, and community empowerment, particularly in underserved communities.
The organisation believes that expanding access to the sport can help unlock opportunities for young people while strengthening the future of Zimbabwean cricket.
As the programme moves to Shamva today, organisers are confident that the initiative will continue to inspire the next generation of players and further expand cricket’s reach across the country.
The visiting Australian coaches will be at Shamva Cricket Club today, running a community cricket coaching clinic.
