Great opportunity for national rugby selectors

NATIONAL selectors will have an opportunity to widen their player selection during the second edition of the Nedbank Rugby Challenge Cuptaking place on Saturday and Sunday at Harare Sports Club.

Brendan Dawson, the Zimbabwe Sables coach is preparing the Goshawks side for the Mzansi Challenge in South Africa, due to kick off on March 24 with the final set for June 17 while Shaun De Souza, the Junior Sables mentor is assembling a team for the Rugby Africa Barthes Trophy in Kenya in which Zimbabwe are the defending champions.

 

Matabeleland Warriors, a select team with players from Matabeleland and Midlands, Mutare Sports Club composed of players from Manicaland, Harare’s top three, Old Georgians, Old Hararians and Harare Sports Club, new addition Pitbulls, Under-20 High Performance team, Nedbank development side, which is a select team from players from the developing clubs, Police, Mabvuku, Glenwood Stars, Southern City, Zimbiru, XP Horns , Northern Chiefs, FS Raiders, Hatcliffe as well as Pioneers are some of the teams taking part in this year’s edition of the Nedbank Challenge Cup.

The tournament will give selectors from the 15s system a great opportunity to have a look at players in strength on strength fixtures and identify potential players for the future.

Winners of the Nedbank Challenge Cup will pocket US$4  500, runners up have a reward of US$2 500 while second runners up have US$1250 waiting for them in a tournament with a total prize money of US$8750 while the entire sponsorship package is US$23 000. – @Mdawini_29
