RAYMOND UCHENA’s first-half header was cancelled by Evans Katema’s strike from the spot, as GreenFuel and Bikita Minerals battled for a share of the spoils in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter at the GreenFuel Arena in Chisumbanje yesterday.
It was Saul Chaminuka’s first game at home and second in charge of GreenFuel. It was also the veteran coach’s first game against the side he dumped last week to join GreenFuel.
More importantly for Chamimuka, the draw meant he avoided the ignominy of losing three league games on the bounce.
His last game in charge of Bikita Minerals ended in defeat to Manica Diamonds at Sakubva.
Similarly, his first assignment with GreenFuel ended with a 2-0 reverse loss at the hands of Manica Diamonds at the same venue last Sunday.
In yesterday’s game, the two teams went pound for pound, displaying some entertaining football much to the awe of a decent crowd.
Anelka Chivandire was undoubtedly the best player in the field and ageless Allan Gahadzikwa was handy for the visitors. The home side took an early lead when captain Raymond Uchena rose highest to head home the opener off a brilliant corner from Collins Dhuwa in the 22nd minute.
Uchena turned from hero to villain three minutes later when he brought down Liberty Masveure in the penalty area after GreenFuel needlessly lost possession in the middle of the park. Veteran striker Katema cooly slotted the ball home sending GreenFuel goalkeeper Tapiwa Chilenga the wrong way from 10 yards out in the 26th minute.
