GreenFuel consider funding Mapuwa

GREENFUEL chairman, Fredson Moyo says they are considering funding Washington Mapuwa’s trip to the UK for trials at EPL side Everton next month.

Moyo said this gesture will help in easing the burden to his parent club Legends Academy, who have requested for assistance. It will also show their appreciation for the wonderkid, who has shown great passion in helping the team to remain in the top-flight league.

The 18-year-old has been a standout performer for the Chisumbanje side netting four times despite a reduced role in the first round of the season.

He has been the club’s joint top goalscorer with forward, Nqobile Ndlovu.

Mapuwa has been credited for being a fire fighter in a team which looked lifeless before the recess.

He is part of the Legends Academy’s quartet, which was picked by the team’s coach, Farai Dhliwayo for the UK trip together Calum English Brown, Preston Steblecki and Tatenda Maulidi.

Augustine Banhire, who is based in England, is also expected to be part of this group.

These five players will be assessed from November 18 to 26 under the Everton International Affiliate Programme.

“Mapuwa has been one of our better players and his contribution in our fight to survive relegation has been overwhelming.

“He is a youngman with great potential and we are more than happy that our coach, Rodwell Dhlakama has embraced him and other youngsters within our camp.

“We have been communicating with his parent club and they have also other things which they have requested from us and we are still considering how best we can assist them,” said Moyo.

Green Fuel is also home to another Legends Academy graduate, Tashinga Pfende.

But, Dhlakama is a worried man.

“I’m excited about Mapuwa’s progress, he is eager to learn and that shows his character.

“We are going to miss him because of what he brings to the table, he has been our best player and it will be wrong if we make any effort to block his golden chance.

“Even if he fails to make the grade, this will be a great experience for him and it will help in shaping his mindset and approach towards life,” said Dhlakama.
