WITH just two days after their first defeat in over a year, Premier Soccer League newboys GreenFuel have reshuffled their technical team with Bhekitemba Ndlovu taking over the reins from Lloyd Mutasa as head coach of the club.
Ndlovu is taking over responsibilities such as team selection, training, game management and all that fall under the ambit of head coach while Mutasa has been reassigned to the position of technical director.
The Premiership new boys have big dreams in their debut season. Their 1-0 defeat to Yadah at the National Sports Stadium on Monday was their first defeat since 2021 in official matches.
GreenFuel gained promotion unbeaten in their 30-game marathon in the Eastern Region Division One Soccer League under the tutelage of Mutasa last season.
The club’s board chairman, Fredson Moyo, told The Herald that the reshuffle was meant to strengthen their team and the decision was not influenced by their loss to Yadah as they already had the plans before the beginning of the campaign.
“The decision to reshuffle (the technical dep[artment) was not in any way influenced by our defeat to Yadah. We value Lloyd Mutasa for the stellar job he has done in helping us gain promotion, that’s why we have decided to promote him from head coach to a technical director.
“He is the one who will oversee the entire technical team and will be the strategic driver as we move forward.
“Bhekitemba Ndlovu is taking over responsibilities of a head coach and will make decisions on training, team selection, game management and all other responsibilities in his job description.
“Bheki is already familiar with the team, having joined the team in early pre-season as first assistant coach. He has worked together with Mutasa and they will continue working together to meet the objectives and targets of the team,” said Moyo.
The Ethanol Boys will play their first few home games at Triangle’s Gibbo Stadium under the guidance of the new gaffer Ndlovu as they wait for the completion of their preferred GreenFuel Arena which is having some major renovations to meet the standards required for hosting Premiership football.
Having travelled all the way from Harare on Tuesday, GreenFuel will this weekend make a short trip to Gibbo where they will host Herentals, who will be in Triangle for the second time in a space of one week.
Mutasa was happy with his new appointment and promised to work closely with Ndlovu and do great things together starting with this weekend’s fixture.
“It’s an appreciation from my employers, there is power in the time. It’s just last month that I have been thinking about one day being a technical director and the feeling is almost surreal.
“I am taking it as a positive and a big step forward. It’s always nice to be honoured and appreciated and I am happy with the recognition that I have just received. It has always been my wish to one day be a technical director and being a technical director of a big institution like GreenFuel is a good achievement for me personally and now I pray that we achieve more and better as a team,” said Mutasa.
