PREMIERSHIP new boys GreenFuel have made an official contact with on demand Bulawayo Chiefs striker Obriel Chirinda.
The Eastern Lowveld side’s officials were in the city yesterday to meet the Amakhosi Amahle administration.
They are eager to beat the transfer window.
The ambitious Chisumbanje side may be willing to break the bank for Chirinda, who is currently the joint league top goalscorer with Manica Diamonds forward Fortune Binzi.
Chirinda was on target when Bulawayo Chiefs lost 2-1 to Herentals last weekend.
A fortnight ago, Chirinda powered Bulawayo Chiefs to a massive 3-0 away victory over Triangle United and he has recently been in fine goal scoring form and his hat-trick followed a brace that he scored for Amakhosi Amahle when they got the better of former Cup Kings Caps United in a match played at Luveve Stadium three weeks ago. Bulawayo Chiefs secretary Dumisani Mantula Sibanda did not give much on the travelling delegation, but close sources to the club disclosed that a meeting was held at the former Callies Stadium.
“I am told there is a letter at the office but so far I have not met anyone. As far as I am concerned Chirinda is our player and he is staying,” said Mantula.
Chiefs are said to be willing to let Chirinda go only if they receive a good offer from the clubs chasing his signature.
Boys Dzenharo, as Green Fuel are fondly referred to by their growing base in the Lowveld, want to make a huge mark on the local football scene.
There is no surprise why they are chasing the best players.
Green Fuel has poured in a staggering US$2 million into the renovation of their own Sports Arena in Chisumbanje which Dhlakama says is nearing completion.
However, GreenFuel are not the only side that is chasing the striker with Highlanders also interested in the striker.
Bosso coach Baltemar Brito has publicly declared his admiration for the striker suggesting it is the club leadership dragging their feet in closing a deal with Chiefs. The Bulawayo Giants are said to be still trying to negotiate a deal that will bring Chirinda to the black and white clan before the window closes.
Northern Region Soccer League side MWOS are also said to be chasing the most sought out striker on the local scene.
With their financial muscle, MWOS could be underdogs in getting Chirinda ahead of topflight teams.
