Veteran actor William Matenga, popularly known as Gweshegweshe from the popular television drama series Gringo, has died.
Matenga died this Saturday morning at a medical facility in Harare, where he had been admitted, a source close to the actor has confirmed.
According to the source, the actor’s blood pressure reportedly rose sharply while he was in hospital.
Matenga rose to prominence through his portrayal of Gweshegweshe in Gringo, becoming a familiar face in Zimbabwean households and earning a special place among viewers of the popular television production.
His character became one of the memorable features of the drama series, making him a recognisable figure in Zimbabwe’s entertainment industry.
