Grow by leading where you are

Hunt For Greatness

Milton  Kamwendo

LEADERSHIP is influence, initiative and impact.

It is more than a title or position.

Leadership begins when you take responsibility. Rise up to lead where you are.

Do not wait for lightning to strike before you decide to rise and lead.

In a world of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity, the greatest leadership is demonstrated by ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Leadership is a choice to lead and not just watch, comment and criticise. Where you are, there are countless opportunities to lead.

Choose to lead

Robin Sharma, in his book “The Leader Who Had No Title”, argues that anyone can lead, regardless of rank, role or station.

You do not need a position to lead. You do not need special entitlement or exotic powers.

What you need is passion, purpose and the courage to act.

Leadership begins when you stop waiting for someone else and start being the solution.

Leadership is about mindset.

Titles may give you authority. Influence is earned through action, integrity and example. Leadership is not reserved for the chosen few; it is a daily decision to step up, speak out and serve. People who lead from wherever they are positioned are always in demand.

The call is not for more bosses. The leadership call is for more builders, bridge makers and believers. The call is for those who turn problems into possibilities.

Leadership mandate

In the book “Why Leaders Can’t Lead”, Warren Bennis explores the gap between leadership theory and practice.

He observes that many people who hold leadership positions are afraid to lead. They are consumed by routine, bureaucracy and indecision.

Bennis warns us not to confuse occupying a position with exercising leadership.

Leadership is about creating meaning, guiding vision and taking bold action.

It is rooted in authenticity and self-awareness. Too many people shrink in fear.

Too many are paralysed by waiting for permission.

Growth only happens when you embrace the mandate to lead, regardless of your context.

You grow by doing hard things. You grow by taking responsibility for change.

You grow by deciding that your life will be part of something better — a better team or a better future.

It requires you to stretch. It prompts you to take risks. You have to get uncomfortable. Leadership forces you to grow through pain, criticism and the pressure of doing what is right.

Live the message

True leaders do not just speak.

They live the message and they model.

They show up with excellence, humility and integrity. They treat people with respect. They act on principle, not convenience.

Be the change you want to see.

People do not follow the loudest voice. They follow the most consistent example.

Even in tough environments, people notice when someone shines brightly, works diligently and uplifts others. Leading by example is precious and impactful.

Stop waiting for the glorious leadership moment. Lead now!  Do not wait to be given a stage to shine. Shine where you are. Let your life preach and proclaim louder than your words. Good speeches alone are not sufficient.

Take responsibility for excellence, ethics and execution.

Purpose-driven leadership

Leadership flourishes when it is driven by purpose. Ego is the enemy. Greatness comes from serving a cause larger than yourself.

When your “why” is clear, the “how” becomes powerful.

Lead with purpose. Leadership must have a clear mission. Purpose anchors you. It gives meaning to your sacrifice.

Purpose fuels your passion. It gives you staying power and resilience. It sustains you in seasons of delay and discouragement.

Effective leadership begins with knowing yourself. Be clear of your moral stand.

Clarify your values, strengths and convictions. Self-awareness helps you stay grounded.

Lead authentically and inspire trust.

Grow in leadership.

Start where it is easiest to lead by leading yourself. Lead with your inner life. Win in the closet where there is no applause.

Develop your character. Clarify your thinking. Deepen your faith. Anchor your values.

Platform for leadership

The leadership call is everywhere. Few people accept it. See every job as a calling to lead.

Volunteer to lead. There is no small work.

There is only work done with love and excellence. This is where leadership shines brightest. Do not wait for perfect conditions.

Begin now. Do not wait for the appointment. Deliver now. Every day is a chance to lead. Lead where you are by taking initiative, refusing mediocrity. Stop presiding over decay.

Fix what is broken. Lift and encourage others. Be intentional.

Leave things better than you found them.

Growth happens when you take ownership.

You grow by developing credibility and trust. Trust is earned through consistency. Develop trust. Build a track record of delivery.

Be a person who delivers. Multiply value. Translate vision into value. Lead wherever you are planted.

Culture of leadership

Wherever there is leadership it shows.

What you do daily determines what you become ultimately. Cultivate a culture of everyday leadership. There is no need to wait. Take ownership and responsibility.

Grow quickly past the lottery and betting mindset.

Leadership does not happen by chance.

Growth does not happen through lightning strikes. No one is coming to lead for you in your spaces. Choose to be someone’s answer.

See things as they could be.

You are here for such a time as this.

You were born to make a difference; not tomorrow, but today. Great things are not built by perfect people. They are built by those who lead courageously.

Builders serve consistently.  They pursue vision. Builders grow continually.

The best leaders inspire with vision and live with conviction.

Leadership legacy

Ultimately, the question is not whether you are a leader. The question is: What kind of leader will you be?

Will you lead by fear or by faith?

Will you lead by excuses or by action? Will you blame others or build something better?

You were born into genius. There is greatness in you. Do not settle for mediocrity.

Pursue leadership that is authentic, responsible and real. Bloom where you are planted.

Lead where they are. Lead boldly, wisely and faithfully. Grow daily because leadership will always demand more from you. You do not need permission to lead. You need only a conviction to serve and a heart to grow.

Do not wait to be great.

Lead where you are. Grow through leading. Make the leadership difference.

Committed to your greatness.
