SEASONED bodybuilder Ryan Gumbo has upped his preparations for this year’s edition of the Muscle Mulisha Grand Prix to be held in Durban, South Africa, on September 19.
The Fitness First Gym athlete, who won the Men’s Physique category at last weeks’ Alex Classic, said he is ready for the challenge.
The hulk has been off the stage for the past two years when he was studying in Cape Town and says he is back to his best.
“I am excited about the recent win having spent two years without competing. The body had some rust, so I had to dig deep to bring my best.
“I am looking forward to the upcoming tournament on September 19 as my confidence levels are very high.
“I am ready for the challenge coming in a week’s time. I am grateful to my sponsors Tryssupps who have been so supportive,” said Gumbo.
Muscle Mulisha Grand Prix has established itself as an important platform on the NPC Worldwide and IFBB Pro League pathway, giving athletes an opportunity to compete for titles while also pursuing bigger opportunities in the sport.
Last week, at Alex Classic, Gumbo finished ahead of Blessing “CC Banks” Sithole, who was second, while Bennon Nyoni took third place.
For Gumbo, the long-term ambition remains securing an IFBB Pro card, something he has narrowly missed on previous occasions.
He came close in 2022 before another near-miss in 2023, when he won the Men’s Physique Open Class E category at the Muscle Mulisha Grand Prix Pro Qualifier in Johannesburg.
