AFTER a two-year sabbatical, seasoned bodybuilder Ryan Gumbo says winning on his return to international competition will help him in his next assignments.
He won his category at the Muscle Mulisha Grand Prix in Durban, South Africa, on Saturday.
The Fitness First Gym athlete won the Class E over up to, and including 183cm, category. The win comes ahead of the high-profile Harare Classic to be held on October 24 and the pro Qualifier scheduled for December 5. Gumbo was ecstatic after his victory. “The contest went on well and l managed to win my Class E over up to and including 183cm event.
“The outing was a good and l will use it as a warm-up as we prepare for the pro Qualifier on December 5 but next up we gear for Harare Classics scheduled for October 24.
“My confidence was high after l recently won the Men’s Physique category at the Alex Classic back home last month. “I am grateful to my sponsors Tryssupps who have been so supportive and l promise to continue working hard and raising the country’s flag high. “There was intense competition but I remained focused and managed to win.
“Coming back to the top after some years away from the stage needs encouragement so l thank my training partners at Family Fitness Gym who are always pushing me.
“I am now looking forward to the Harare Classic and the Pro Qualifiers,” said Gumbo.
The hulk has been off the stage for the past two years when he was studying in Cape Town and his win is likely to boost his confidence ahead of more national tournaments coming.
Muscle Mulisha Grand Prix has established itself as an important platform on the NPC Worldwide and IFBB Pro League pathway, giving athletes an opportunity to compete for titles while also pursuing bigger opportunities in bodybuilding. This year the Grand Prix celebrated its tenth anniversary.
