HIGHLANDERS Football Club chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede has taken his fight against paying the police for providing security during matches to social networking sites.
Gumede also feels the 10 percent levy paid to the Premier Soccer League needs to be reviewed downwards.
The former Zifa vice-president and secretary-general has previously failed to convince the police into thinking along the same lines like him.
On Thursday last week, he took to Twitter to raise his ire and asked why the police should be paid and whether they get paid for covering political rallies.
“Why do police have to be paid? How much are they paid to cover political rallies? The 10 percent taken by PSL turns out bigger than clubs’ share,” wrote Gumede.
Last year, he wrote to ZRP Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri questioning the police charge for securing PSL matches but his request was turned down. He later threatened to take his crusade to President Mugabe.
“Please be advised that your request for the ZRP to review the rates paid to the police details for providing security during football matches at stadiums has not been approved by the commissioner-general.
“This position has been caused by circumstances beyond the ZRP control. ZRP wishes Highlanders Football Club a successful 2014 season campaign,” was the response from the ZRP spokesperson Charity Charamba on behalf of Chihuri last year.
