Gun theft teens held

TWO Gweru teenagers have been arrested for breaking into two houses in Daylesford and Senga suburbs where they stole R25, $255, a pistol and goods worth over $1,200.

Prince Mhenyu, 17, and Blessing Nowake, 19, both of no fixed abode appeared on initial remand before Gweru Magistrate Judith Taruvinga facing charges of unlawful entry and theft.

They were not asked to plead and were remanded in custody to January 8 for trial.

Prosecuting, Daniel Tafuma told the court that between December 25 and December 28 Mhenyu and Nowake went to a house along Dudley road in Daylesford, Gweru.

They broke into the house by forcing a locked door open using an unknown object.

Tafuma said the duo then stole a Lama pistol, R25, $255 and a duvet and ran away.

“Again, on December 28 around midnight Mhenyu and Nowake proceeded to a house in Nehosho Suburb in Senga and used duplicate keys to gain entry,” he said.

“Whilst inside, they stole a home theatre, DVD player, a desktop monitor and keyboard, a brown monarch bag and seven dinner plates and went away.”

The court heard that the duo was arrested the following day at around 5PM, and was found in possession of some of the stolen property.

They also made indications to the police on how they committed the offences. The duplicate keys they used to open the door and $300 worth of goods were recovered.
