A Harare man, Nyasha Nyamasoka, appeared in court yesterday facing multiple charges, including threats to commit murder, contempt of court and violations of the Firearms Act.
The charges arise from allegations that he threatened to kill his wife, Margaret Kapadza, amid claims of infidelity.
Nyamasoka and Kapadza married in 2018 and initially enjoyed a peaceful relationship.
However, their marriage began to deteriorate in 2021 due to Nyamasoka’s alleged increasing violence.
By 2023, the situation had worsened, prompting Kapadza to seek help from Nyamasoka’s brother. At a mediation meeting, Nyamasoka arrived armed and continued his aggressive behaviour.
The matter was reported to Avondale Police Station.
In September 2024, Kapadza secured a protection order against Nyamasoka, prohibiting him from verbally abusing her, threatening violence, or visiting her home or business.
Despite this order, Nyamasoka allegedly continued to violate its terms.
On October 1, 2024, he reportedly entered Kapadza’s home armed with a .303 rifle, accused her of infidelity and assaulted her and their son.
The violence escalated on May 10, when Nyamasoka, reportedly intoxicated, fired a gunshot into the air outside Kapadza’s home, causing her and her family to flee for safety.
Nyamasoka was arrested on May 12, at Kapadza’s residence after police received a tip-off. He led detectives to recover a .22 Walther pistol and a .270 Savage rifle, neither of which he had valid firearm certificates for.
Nyamasoka was granted bail of US$150 and is scheduled to appear in court again on June 27.
