Gunners approach Reds over Suarez

Spanish giants Real have been linked with Uruguay striker Suarez for most of the summer.

Now, the Reds are prepared to finally receive the formal bid they know is coming — the indications in Spain are that it will finally arrive in the next few days.
Sources close to Real are hinting the Bernabeu outfit are ready to offer striker Gonzalo Higuain — who, not co-incidentally is a long-term target for Arsenal, who are also being linked with Suarez — plus around £10 million in cash.

Liverpool, who have no serious interest in Argentina international Higuain, will turn such a proposal down flat and immediately insist Suarez is not for sale unless a) any interested clubs activate the £40 million exit clause in his contract, and b) the player submits an official transfer request.

Sportsmail also revealed on Monday how the Gunners would make a £35m offer for the Uruguay forward this week. And having opened discussions with the Merseysiders earlier this month, talks have recommenced, despite Liverpool’s apparent reluctance to sell.

Upon announcing his desire to quit Liverpool, Suarez insisted he wanted to leave England. But Arsenal have been assured that Suarez would consider a move to the Emirates Stadium, despite his earlier claims.

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has confirmed the club have received an offer for Suarez from Arsenal, but insists the Reds remain determined to persuade the unsettled striker his future lies at Anfield.

Suarez has made it clear he wants to move away from Merseyside this summer, going on record during several interviews in his homeland to state his desire to play Champions League football. Arsenal, Chelsea and Real Madrid have all been linked with a move for the 26-year-old, with the Gunners widely reported to have lodged a £30million bid last week.
